Doesn't need to be the default, but we could save a bunch of time on some island frames if we conservatively skipped processing the ocean regions. I believe there are some frames where there's just one tiny land part that intersected a frame boundary:
We would need to get a reliable water mask, turn it into a polygon with gdal_polyonize
