Chromecast Stops Casting Channel #48
Comments
I started having similar issues within the timeframe you describe. I have been unable to come to a resolution for the problem. |
After a bunch of troubleshooting, I think the issue is actually with the latest Chromecast firmware, but I'm not entirely sure. If I use my chromecast with other apps (say, Netflix), after a few hours I'll get the brain freeze message and the stick will reboot. WIth greenscreen set to cast just one URL to the stick, it'll happen after an hour or few, and the more URLs I have the channel rotate, the faster the brain freeze arrives. With 3-4 URLs, it happens in 10-15 minutes. |
For testing I have bypassed green screen entirely. For now I am casting to each of my 6 displays using multiple chrome users on a single machine. I am letting the displays sit for now to see if they will continue to fail when green screen has no role in the process. I hope this will show if the chromecasts are themselves the issue as I have been unable to locate a cause. |
I am having the same issue. If I only have 1 url on a channel it is fine but any more and the switching between urls on channels gets slower and slower until I get a black screen then the chromecast powers back on to the chromecast home screen. This is a massive problem. One possibility we are considering is that the "channel" is too heavy for the chromecast and it's getting a ram overload. How to solve this, we have no idea. Again this has only started happening since the chromecasts got a new update. |
I posted to try and see if the issue is related to the chromecasts and not greenscreen as based on my troubleshooting I do not believe it to be a greenscreen issue. https://code.google.com/p/google-cast-sdk/issues/detail?id=682 It appears someone is having similar brain freeze issues when casting a video for extended periods of time. The summary of my issues I posted and troubleshooting I found relevant: |
Per google recommendation please do the following "Please send feedback report from the Chromecast (how to here: https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/6189374?hl=en) and in the description write "for Issue 681". I can only assume the more widespread our bug reports are the more likely the issue will be addressed. |
This issue looks like a showstopper for anyone considering Greenscreen. The Google tickets (https://code.google.com/p/google-cast-sdk/issues/detail?id=682, https://code.google.com/p/google-cast-sdk/issues/detail?id=681) show no indication of a resolution. Has a newer firmware since this issue was created resolved the issue? |
This is still an issue. Has been no improvement and have not heard anything back from chromecast support. As a work around to limit the frequency of the disconnects we have put "light"(light on memory being used) urls on the channels. This not a good solution but the only one we have right now. |
After returning from a trip this week, my Chromecast loses its connection to Greenscreen after ~5-10 minutes. Looking at the Chromecast debugger by going to :9222 eventually provides an error saying "Detached from target". The new Chromecasts were released while I was away and it appears (though I'm not 100% sure) that this device got a firmware update as well.
The Greenscreen console output does not yield any interesting information at all.
