I'm currently porting Ly to FreeBSD and I was wondering if it would be possible to let the user specify a different prefix for the final binary than /usr/bin. The reason for this is that on FreeBSD all the 3rd party software goes under /usr/local by default.

How did you manage to get this to work on FreeBSD? For whatever reason it refuses to launch OpenBox. I normally use SLiM & decided to give Ly a try. When correctly set, as per pkg message, I can get Ly to launch "Shell", but when attempting to launch OpenBox, I end up with a blank screen. With login manager(s) disabled, I can startx just fine with .xinitrc set to launch openbox-session.

I don't remember exactly. I've not used ly recently. Maybe you could find out what's happening on your system by examining xsetup.sh?

Just for posterity,
I might have had something else going on entirely. I suspect it is mostly due to something pertaining to x11/nvidia-driver. When I use this same box but instead using the iGPU (Intel GPU on core or Ryzen GPU on core) or specifically with an AMD GPU (in the form of an R9 380 & graphics/drm-kmod), Ly worked flawlessly. Whether relying on .xinitrc or without, Ly works each time.
The gist is this: When using the nvidia-driver (and Ly of course) from ports, I am left with a blank screen---after correct username/password---for about 150-180 seconds & suddenly my (correct) desktop environment shows up. When using SLiM as my login manager on this very same setup, I have zero problems, no matter the GPU and/or driver combo.
Still mystified, but I'm going to chip away at this again & see what I come up with. Slight suspicion that it might be something about nvidia-driver & the old syscons....

I'm having trouble installing ly on FreeBSD as well, maybe add a page in the wiki for that?

Some instructions on how to set up Ly are available in the package message, which is being printed after successful installation (or after running pkg info -D ly).
