We have begun using new business cards and flyers to represent eScience Lab at events in person. To provide a consistent visual identity for eScience Lab, I am proposing some minor graphical updates to our website. I am working in branch https://github.com/eScienceLab/eScienceLab.github.io/tree/reskin-business

This is still work-in-progress and I will present a few different options. For now, here is the start.

I will continue working on the 'hero banner' design, replacing the garden scene.

For reference, here is the flyer:

Hero banner option 2 (vertical instead of diagonal yellow). Doesn't work in iPad Mini! Needs more work.

Option 3: Pattern at header (purple) and hero (all yellow).
Too much! But taking out the pattern from the hero is too plain.
At least it works across devices.

Thoughts:

  • The current hero banner format is limited, designed for photographs where the heading text can appear over any part of the image.
  • We may be better changing the mechanics of the hero banner, such as making it narrow (eg 150px high and full width), with the heading text appearing below it entirely. Then we would have a plain purple header (like options 1 and 2). Search box may have to come out too.
