Capcom Z80 Combination Core

Capcom Z80

In the mid-80s, Capcom used the Z80 cpu to power its Arcade games. This began with the arcade classic 1942, and includes many others. Jotego has implemented cores for all of these games, but they've all been released as separate cores with slightly different implementations. Many of them have the same resolution, so I have combined them into a single core.

This combines the following cores: 1942, 1943, Black Tiger, Commando, Exed Exes, Gun.Smoke, Section Z, Legendary Wings, Trojan, and Hyper Dyne Side Arms

Also included are some additional roms, including some rom hacks, for 1942, 1943, and Commando

Usage Note

When combining cores, each core must share the same resolution set up. Many of these games share the same set up, but some do not. Because of this, they are split among 3 different cores sharing the same jtcz80_c platform. The cores are split up as follows:

  • Capcom_Z80: 1942, 1943, Black Tiger, Commando, Exed Exes, Gun.Smoke
  • Capcom_Z80_256x240: Section Z, Legendary Wings, and Trojan
  • Capcom_Z80_384x224: Hyper Dyne Side Arms

In order to play different games, you must switch the 'core' from the openFPGA menu. Because the resolutions aren't supported, games cannot be shared across all cores.

Set-up Note #1

As usual, this distribution does not contain the actual RBF core files. Please download the cores from Jotego's repository, and copy the RBF files into the correct locations.

Check inside the following core folders for which files are required:

  • /Cores/jotego.Capcom_Z80/
  • /Cores/jotego.Capcom_Z80_256x240/
  • /Cores/jotego.Capcom_Z80_384x224/

Set-up Note #2

I did not include any of the standard MRA files, but I have included new MRA files for games not included in Jotego's current jtbin. These are primarily for 1942, 1943, and Commando. You can build these MRAs yourself, or the roms will be available through updaters.

For all of the standard roms, these cores are using the same roms as they would be normally, so just copy them from your other core folders, or use the updaters to get new copies.
