Margin only between(!) items in ItemsControl

If I add a margin to my DataTemplate control so I get spacing between the items. Like Margin="0,10" for example. Then the first item also has a 10 margin to the top and the last item also has a 10 margin to the bottom.

How can I make it so the margin only appears between the items (so first and last item would have a different margin). I tried chatGPT and it uses the weirdest combinations of styling and converters but in the end nothing worked. Is there a way?

Well if you are not happy with 5 on either side, you can provide either ItemContainerStyleSelector and decide based on the ItemsControl.AlternationIndex property of the container, or, you provide your own panel in ItemsPanel that will space them out

I used AlternationIndex in one of the converters which chatgpt recommended to me and the value for all items was 0. Also on Stackoverflow people say we shouldn't use AlternationIndex (they showed a screenshot where the value for all items changed after you scrolled).

As noted in the documentation you need to set AlternationCount, you can set it to max int value. If alternation index does not work for you, the "proper" way is your own panel.

Or, if you are feeling unorthodox, you can set the ItemsControl to Margin="0,-10" to compensate for it...
