Frequently Asked Questions

(Important!) I signed up, but did not receive a confirmation email. What now?

Turns out, some combination of browser/javascript/pop-up blockers interfere with the sign-up form. Most likely, if you have not received a confirmation email, the sign-up did not go through at all. Please try disabling the blockers, or try a different browser, and sign-up again (don't forget to enable the blockers again afterwards). If you still don't receive a confirmation email, please let us know at medialabcourse AT p2pu DOT org directly and tell us which email address you registered. We'l take care of you! Sorry about the inconvenience. Fortunately this only affects a tiny number of people. (We know that's no consolation!)

Will this course run again?

The short answer is YES. That's also the long answer for now (we don't know the details yet).

What time are the seminars? What if that time doesn't work for me?

The seminars are Monday mornings, between 10:00 - 11:30am US East Coast (We're in Cambridge/Boston). The actual conversation will take about an hour, but we are fine-tuning start and end-times. We'll be sending out emails with the exact time every week, and also posting them as events in the G+ community. Many of you have indicated they want to watch live, but there is absolutely no problem (or major disadvantage) to watching the recording. We are broadcasting all meetings as Google Hangouts OnAir, which means they should be up on youtube for your viewing pleasure right afterwards.

I have a question about how this works - Where can I get help?

Once you sign up, you can join our Google Community. The Google Community will be the place where you can watch streaming hangouts live, discuss with your peers, and post your projects. The “Questions” section on the Creative Learning Community page will be the place to post any questions that come up. Either the Creative Learning Team or your fellow peers will be able to provide answers. You can also send an email directly to the Creative Learning Team at [email protected].

How much time will the course take?

We don't require a particular commitment - it really depends on what you want to get out of the course. If you want to fully participate, you should plan on 4-8 hours / week. The live seminars are about an hour. Readings and reflections could take anywhere from 1-4 (or even more) hours. You might end up discussing some of your work other learners. And the activities are relatively open ended as well. It's possible to build a small Scratch project in 30 minutes, or spend a full day refining it. Also, there is no requirement to complete everything. Go at your own pace, and have fun with this!

Will I get some kind of certification?

No. There will be no certification. But you’ll learn a lot, and hopefully have a great time working with other smart people.

Do I need a group or can I go at this alone?

When you first sign up, we will group you with other participants to ask questions and help each other out. However, how much work you do within your group is up to you. We think working in small groups will make this a much better experience.

I missed the live streaming of the weekly seminar is there anywhere else I can watch it?

Slacker! But so are we. That's why we made sure you can watch it from the video section of this site (http://learn.media.mit.edu) the week after it streamed or from the weekly community page. Find the link to the week on the Course page.
