datadog metrics is dropping metrics with hyphen in the name

If the metric name has hyphen in it, it is not sent to datadog. E.g. storm.exclamation-statsd-18.word.__transfer-count.default.1MinuteRate is dropped, but storm.exclamation_statsd_18.word.__transfer_count.default.1MinuteRate is not. I'm using the UDP transport. Let me know if you need more information

We're using DogStatsD, I think their agent does the translation to remove hyphens and leading underscores in our metrics. You might try looking your datadog agent configuration.
