Need admin input on how the repository should be licensed.

Please confirm:

  1. This repository is pretty much Codidact-specific, right?

  2. This is mostly (or entirely) for documentation - no actual source code shall reside here?

In case 1. and 2. above are true, here are some options:

  • If we care about this repository being restricted to Codidact:

    • a custom license, granting rights to copy and modify for the sole purpose of contributing to our projects
    • CC BY-ND (Creative Commons - Attribution + NoDerivatives), with an exception clause to allow for Codidact collaboration if necessary (I'm not sure)
  • If we don't care about this repository being restricted to Codidact, but care about getting changes back (which I highly doubt):

    • a free, strongly "viral" copyleft license such as GFDL (GNU Free Documentation License) or OPL (Open Content License)
    • The MPL (Mozilla Public License), which is a little less "viral" as copyleft applies only at the file level.
  • If we don't care about either:

My personal suggestions would be CC BY-SA and CC BY-ND, in that order of preference.

One important thing to note is that, for whatever files you copied over from other projects (such as those from the core repo), you will need to request permission from the original file author(s) to relicense them here.
