Code Island appears to have an existing email address for reporting harassment: [email protected]. Is that email address still actively monitored?

If so, we should update the email address in our CoC to point to that address. (For now our contact address is "[email protected]", which forwards directly to me, but ideally I think that CoC-related emails should go to more than just one person.)

On December 19, I pinged the address and had the following conversation (all on that day). Unfortunately the conversation stalled after the last message, and it's still unclear whether the safespace address is meant to be used for individual brigades/projects.

At this point I think we could either (1) follow up with another message to clarify, (2) use the safespace address in our CoC without further clarification, or (3) make a brigade-specific code-island.org address. I'm inclined to (2) since it's monitored already, would probably get routed properly, and doesn't require nominating a local committee. Thoughts?

Hi,

I'm a member of the Rhode Island Code for America Brigade, known as Code Island.

We're working on a new project and reviewing the contact information in our Code of Conduct. Could you verify for me that this address still works and reaches someone?

Thanks,
Aron

CfA replied:

Hi Aron,

Yes, this email is actively monitored by members of CfA’s Brigade team and event staff.

Thanks for the reply, Christopher. Is this an appropriate address for us to use in the Code of Conduct in the root of our projects, or is that something we should be handling separately? What happens if someone sends a complaint to this address? Does it eventually loop back to our local brigade leadership?

CfA replied:

(Moving safe space to BCC, adding brigade-info)

You can use safespace@ when an urgent response is needed from CfA HQ. Otherwise, Brigade-info is the best route. Brigade-info goes to the entire Brigade Team. If somebody sends a complaint from a brigade to safespace you’ll hear from one of us rather quickly. When you’re at Summit, Congress or an in-person event then somebody on the event staff will respond immediately.

If you tell me a little more about the project, I can point you in the right direction.

Thanks again, Christopher.

The project is a lobbyist tracker. We're just getting off the ground. The repo is at https://github.com/codeisland/ri-lobbying/

I'm following up on #5 ... essentially getting our ducks in a row so contributors have a way to report harassment.
