this could be done pretty easily, but I am skeptical of how intuitive the interaction would be.

Mary Pat and others did talk about the desire for a "home" button.

I don't see it as a replacement for the "x" to close the detail panel.

When watching Mary Pat use the app, she tried to get back to the filers/list when she couldn't find the "x" right away. Many sites seem to use the logo as a way to get back to "home."
