Getting to know GNU/Linux distros

This project is meant to be done during class, and it should take no longer than 40 minutes, including the presentations. Each team will choose 2 of the most prominent Linux distributions and will have 5 minutes to present them to the class. Each team should present a different distribution.

  • Create a new document to collaborate with your partner or team.
  • Open Google Presentations and invite your partner to edit.

📝 Instructions

1. Assemble your team and choose a layout.

  • Choose a partner to work with.
  • Select a Linux distribution from the following list or research one of your choice:
    • Ubuntu
    • RedHat
    • Fedora
    • PopOs
    • Arch Linux
    • ZorinOs
    • Proxmox
    • Rocky Linux
    • RaspberryPi OS
    • Manjaro
    • Slackware
    • Asahi Linux
    • OpenSUSE
    • CentOS Stream
    • Gentoo
    • Garuda Linux
    • Kali
    • Steam OS

Check this article for additional Linux distributions.

2. Prepare your presentation

  • Research and include the following information about your chosen distribution:

    • What distro it is based on.
    • Key features.
    • Intended use.
    • Packages.
    • Supported platforms.
    • Strengths (in terms of cybersecurity).
    • Weaknesses (in terms of cybersecurity).

  • Optional: Use SlideCarnival to simplify design work.

3. Prepare to present your findings

  • Practice presenting your work to be ready to share in class.
  • Prepare to discuss and compare your chosen distribution with others.
