The app works fine with very little upkeep.
It acts as a wrapper for Android System Webview, and as such when ASW gets an update Lightning does as well.

Lightning is used as the base for multiple other browsers and downloaders that are maintained more, but the core is the same and rarely needs updating.

If software works, dont mess with it.

Another question, I suppose it's not possible to have dark mode in websites in any way, and certainly not by using the chrome flag "force dark mode" right ? Since WebView isn't based on chromium is it

Midori is effectively a rogue branch of Fulguris and is in breach of the CPAL license for not displaying "Powered by Fulguris" on start up. Also they claim to be open source but I can tell you this is not their source code. In fact it is a rogue branch of Styx which was a rogue branch of Fulguris.

To be fair I still need to contact them to ask them to abide by the license, that includes publishing the source code.

Sounds fair enough, but since you have made many changes over the last 4 years, when you last updated the APK (and over at F-Droid too), would it not be best to release the latest APK based on these several changes? That would be a good thing.
