About Mobile Foundation

The {{site.data.keyword.mobilefoundation_short}} service provides a way to quickly set up a {{site.data.keyword.mobilefirst}} server environment on {{site.data.keyword.Bluemix}}. You can then develop, test, and manage mobile apps from this cloud environment.

{{site.data.keyword.mobilefoundation_short}} provides users an easy and guided way to set up {{site.data.keyword.mfserver_short_notm}} environment on {{site.data.keyword.Bluemix_notm}}.

{{site.data.keyword.mobilefoundation_short}} consists of the following components:

  • {{site.data.keyword.mfserver_long_notm}} is mobile-optimized middleware that serves as a gateway between applications, backend systems, and other cloud based services.

  • {{site.data.keyword.mfp_dr_long_notm}} components offer runtime client application programming interfaces (APIs) in the form of SDKs for iOS, Android, and Windows. These SDKs are designed to enhance security, governance, and usability.

  • {{site.data.keyword.mfp_oc_long_notm}} is a web-based UI that enables simplified workflows for both the developer and the administrator to create, monitor, secure and administer applications and adapters.

With {{site.data.keyword.mobilefoundation_short}}, you can perform the following functions:

  • Build apps for any mobile operating environment and device with your preferred development approach: native or hybrid.

  • Connect and synchronize mobile apps with enterprise data, applications, and cloud services: including services from {{site.data.keyword.Bluemix_notm}}.

  • Secure the device, application, data, and network layer.

  • Manage your mobile app portfolio from a single central interface and develop mobile apps by using your favorite IDEs and libraries.

  • Use scalable data services for online and offline data synchronization.

  • Configure unified push notifications for all supported mobile device operating systems.

You can use the {{site.data.keyword.mfp_cli_long_notm}} (CLI) with the {{site.data.keyword.mobilefoundation_short}} to easily create and manage apps.
