I think I had the same issue with my laptop ones, when I used a different USB port it worked. Maybe not all USB ports are active at boot on some devices? It also depends on the boot priority settings in the BIOS of your PC.

@danelsan @thaefner try # parted /dev/sdb set 1 boot on. It helped my macbook to see boot partition.
