Currently pruning removes nodes from the tree, meaning all prototypes are still computed during a forward but then simply ignored. This is highly wasteful, after pruning often only a small fraction of the tree survives.
Will likely require a refactoring of the prototype-node association (currently using the prototype index in a flat list)
