Suggestions:

  • flash the mic faders - won't work if the sidebar is closed
  • flash the whole sidebar indicator
  • flash an angry red mic icon somewhere
  • flash the "Mic live" inner border
    • would need to be a different colour though

Can you monitor the microphone level even when it is "off"?

If so, you could monitor if it looks like someone is trying to talk, and display a "Your mic is muted" message like MS Teams does.
