Stratigraphic column editing

A major goal for Macrostrat v2 is web-based, approachable editing of stratigraphic columns. We've constructed several prototype applications for column editing over the years.

• Column builder: This application inherits its basic structure from Macrostrat v1's "dacite" web editor, written in PHP. It is designed to edit columns in a mostly tabular form
• Stratigram is a prototype application for visual editing of columns, geared towards capturing measured sections from publications
• Naukluft column editor: this app is used to bring together measured sections into a sequence-stratigraphic model

These applications have different editing approaches, and we hope to eventually bring their strengths into Macrostrat's column editing system. This will start with multiple parallel efforts:

• Bring Column builder into alignment with Macrostrat's core application, by splitting it into this repository (backend/database components) and UW-Macrostrat/web (frontend).

  • Integrate column builder web application web#234 tracks integration of the column editor web app
• Situate the other two applications as demos, for now
• Gradually integrate and streamline the applications
