Help installing/running non bundled apps

Hello all,
Find below some of my findings getting things to work (or not!) on my Bittboy v3.5. Hopefully this is also applicable to other supported platforms.

Standalone packages:

• I managed to install and run: iotester, blockout2, circuitdude, meritous spartak, tileworld, gpsp, gngeo, picodrive, race-od.
• I've been unable to install or get working: any .opk, gambatte (standalone, non-retrolib). Can anyone explain how those are supposed to be installed?
• Packages .ipk need to be installed through "explorer" as it includes the package installer, not "commander".
• jazz: for some reason, after overwriting the data files with the full version, none of the episodes seemed to run. They would all crash and exit OpenJazz. However, they all worked on the 2nd try!
• fba uses the explorer to browse for roms, so your rom folder cannot start with a special character as those are hidden in explorer.
• gngeo supports roms in .gno format. those are much faster to load.
• Hexen and Heretic need the wad files in the .hhexen and .hheretic folders respectively. It works with names all lower case, I haven't tried upper case.

Retroarch vs standalone packages:

• If using Chocolate Doom, wad goes in folder .chocolate-doom. I haven't tried the retroach prboom core.
• None of the arcade cores run at acceptable performance, so use standalone emus mame4all or fba for arcade.
• ScummVM performs horrendously as both Retroarch and standalone. That + small screen + mouse not responding well to the d-pad, you might as well consider that ScummVM isn't supported. Maybe if someone ported an old version of ScummVM with just the Lucasarts and Sierra games it would perform acceptably, but you'd still be stuck with pixel hunting on tiny screen + d-pad.
• Cannonball: the instructions I found say to put the rom files into .retroarch/downloads, but they need to go in .retroarch/system. I wasn't able to get the standalone to work (no documentation to explain where to put the files, and trial and error in common sense locations didn't work).
• Flashback: if using retroarch, unzip the DOS version of Flashback in a folder and then point retroarch to a .map file. Like cannonball, I wasn't able to get the standalone executable to work.

Retroarch specific:

• ecwolf: needs ecwolf.pk3 as well as data files. Load Wolfenstein core in retroarch then load content and select a data file (e.g. a .wl6 file for Wolf3D, .sod file for Spear of Destiny, .n3d for Noah's ark).
• GB/GBC: only Gambatte gave me good performance
• GBA: only gpsp gave me good performance
• GEN/SMS/GG: I use picodrive; I've read somewhere picodrive GG support is "completely broken", but I didn't see any problems.
• MSX: only fMSX gave me good performance. BlueMSX works but takes ages to load.
• NES: only quick NES gave me good performance
• PCE: only mednafen PCE fast gave me good performance.

Note that all those cores are probably not the most accurate ones, but they perform well. Also I didn't trying changing settings, so maybe setting frameskip on other cores would work well.

Installation should be the same as on older versions of MiyooCFW. However we changed MAIN partiton to be linux filesystem, which may then prompt you to enable exec permision for running app, so you may end up using chmod +x <binary_name>.

I've been unable to install or get working: any .opk

no OPK support yet, only IPK.

ScummVM performs horrendously

ScummVM already has support for Miyoo, from its website you can download it for both beta versions (musl and uClibc)

Yes, I tried both the Retroarch core and standalone build from the ScummVM page, and both were extremely slow with "Day of the Tentacle", so gave up there. I haven't tried first gen Scumm games or Sierra AGI games, so those may perform acceptably.

Please. Give us instructions on how to add extra game ports and applications.
Links to game ports and applications are also welcome.

PS. Shouldn't ports like Quake or Cannonball be in a different location?
They are now placed in the "Cores" tab instead of "Games"?

Check "Resources" section to download additional apps/games.

Unzip and copy somewhere on the "main" partition after having connected your device to a computer via USB.

Then in Gmenu2x, press "select" button, "add link" and point to the executable. If the package comes with a .png or .bmp, you can use this as an icon as well.

For .ipk, launch it from explorer (not commander) to install the package. This will also create the shortcut.

.opk are not supported, as pointed out by @Apaczer above.

The reason Quake and Cannonball are seen in the "cores" tab is because those links are to the Retroarch cores. If you use standalone applications, you can create the link in any section you wish following the instructions above.
