gpsp and bios files

Can anyone confirm/deny whether or not the standalone gpsp is correctly finding/using the bios file if one is placed? I see the Normatt bios screen on the standalone, but the standard one in the retroarch core. I've placed copies in all the places that I've read they should be.

It needs to be renamed to "gba_bios.bin" and put in "emus/gpsp(_rumble)/". You'll find a working one already bundled with gpsp_rumble on the system.

I had the file in emus/gpsp, emus/gpsp_gameblabla and emus/gpsp_rumble previously. Just created emus/gpsp(_rumble) as well but even with that, it seems to still boot into the normatt bios if I enable the bios screen. emus/gpsp_gpsp seems to be the 'working directory' for the emulator.

What version of gpSP is that? With a "gpsp_gpsp" working directory? 😮 The one bundled with the Miyoo CFW is "gpsp_rumble".

I didn't mean that you should put it in a new folder created called "gpsp(_rumble)". The brackets were just to signal that the "_rumble" part may be missing for you. The file needs to be named "gba_bios.bin" (without the quote marks, obviously), and placed in the working/home directory of gpSP under "emus".

If gpSP still doesn't launch the BIOS after that, then your version of gpSP doesn't support that feature -- then it has been disabled in that build, or the working location for it changed.

Note that you also have a hidden working folder for gpSP on the "Main" partition ("/mnt"), starting with a dot in the name. Have you tried placing it in there? Maybe that's where your build expects it. You'll need to enable seeing hidden folders in your file manager to see it.

It's also possible that your BIOS dump is faulty. Try the one bundled with "gpsp_rumble" instead -- because that one has been tested and it works.

the gpsp_gpsp was a typo on my part. it's indeed gpsp_rumble. I'm running a PowKiddy v90 with CFW 1.3.3 running. I'll try the other directory suggested, and I believe I've tried both the gpsp included bios along with others, but I'll confirm that. (and probably do a checksum to confirm I've got a valid one.) That being said, the file I'm using works on RetroArch instance of gpsp and in other platforms as well. Appreciate the advice.

That should definitely not be happening. 🤔 The bundled configuration works.

Gpsp rumble does launch for me and runs, but appears to be using the normatt bios rather than an official one. With RetroArch on the v90 i can get it to boot into whichever of the 2 I prefer. My original question was around whether the standalone is capable of booting into an official bios, and if i had it configured correctly. My understanding is that the official one may offer slightly different compatibility.

I see. I don't have the answer to that, unfortunately. But gpSP is quite buggy/unfinished as it is. Trying to load an official BIOS into it just screams trouble to me. I don't think it is going to improve compatibility.

If it is to work, the working official BIOS file would need to replace "gba_bios.bin". So if putting it there and naming it that doesn't work with the standalone gpSP, then chances are the standalone doesn't support the use of an official BIOS.
