This looks pretty sick for setting up a GPU passthrough, my question is will it work with a normal desktop out of the box?

Theoretically yes if you have an Intel+Nvidia setup. I haven't actually tried it though, so there may be bugs.

do you think it would be hard adding support for desktops and amd? i can help test. im looking to setup a passthrough

Not hard, but potentially very time consuming, especially for me because I don't personally have a desktop system with an amd cpu right now. There are plenty of comparatively simple guides on how to get it working on the desktop. This is your best bet for now.

I have a Desktop with an AMD Processor and an nVidia Card and this script was working fine for me:
