Packaging up a serial loader?

I got around to 2.3.2 today, so finally hooked up the Sparkfun serial adapter and gave it a whirl. Worked flawlessly!

I simply soldered an 0805 4.7k resistor across TX/RX (I did this a while ago before the talk of diodes) using some solder paste and hot air.

However, it's got me wondering - if I wanted to give people the option of loading software updates, then the only hardware they'd need is pretty cheap, but is there an easy way to package up the serial uploader, without having to do an Arduino install? eg: "extract this ZIP file into a directory and run this batch script"

Is this a ridiculous idea?
