COMMUNITY MODERATION GUIDELINES

Project Catalyst lays the foundation of collective innovation and on-chain governance for the Cardano ecosystem. This is an exciting moment for the whole Cardano community because decision making is being transferred to ada holders and migrated away from federated authorities. Simply put, your creativity and ideas will build Cardano into the next decade and beyond.

To make sure that Project Catalyst thrives, it is essential we encourage the best ideas to rise to the top while supporting those that need additional guidance. This is all done through Ideascale where ideation can be encouraged, challenged, and adjusted to find the best path forward for Cardano. We want to make certain that our conversations on the innovation platform are as fruitful as possible so we’d like to offer these helpful guidelines.

Citizenship

Remember we're all in this together

The point of decentralization is ensuring that everyone has a level playing field to collaborate, regardless of where they were born, what they believe, and how they identify. It is important for developers to show experience relevant to their proposal.

However, evaluation of ideas based upon personal identity should not touch upon physical appearance, religious beliefs, cultural backgrounds, sexual orientation, and/or national identity. The innovation platform was created to leave prejudice behind in order to find ideas which address the fund challenge. Be good citizens and treat everyone with respect.

Support

Disagree without being disagreeable

Assume good intent. Everyone has different priorities in building the Cardano ecosystem. If someone’s view does not match up with your own it is important to try to understand their position rather than assuming they do not want the network to thrive.

Listen first. Great collaboration is founded upon listening to understand. Challenge and support ideas based on their content rather than their face value perception.

Lead with honesty. It is important to offer your honest opinion to build strong proposals rather than blindly embracing or criticizing. Remember, when one proposal wins, the entire ecosystem gets better. Your honest opinion makes all the difference.

Practice civility. We strive to embrace civility both online and offline. Everyone must feel safe to put their opinions forward without fear of digital or IRL reprisal. Belligerent actions like doxing, hacking, or threatening behavior will not be tolerated.

Solidarity

Build each other up and build the platform

Lead through action. The Cardano community welcomes everyone regardless of their experience in the crypto space. Practice politeness, civil communication and good citizenship in all interactions. Experienced members of the community should model this behavior for newer members.

Establish connections. Mentorship and partnerships are key to unlocking the full potential of the innovation platform. Rely on the wealth of knowledge generated by the community and contribute to it. We encourage everyone to find collaborators and common ground.

Recognize and credit where it is due. Parallel thinking and independent invention happens in technology. However, when someone generates an idea it is crucial that they are credited. Establishing this standard ensures that everyone benefits from innovation while bolstering individual thought leaders.

Security

Hold yourself and others to high standards

Prevent harassment. Any action taken to intimidate or attack an individual or a project is unacceptable. Not only does this harm the community, it is unproductive to the platform. Physical, mental, emotional, and sexual abuse are entirely unacceptable and anyone participating in these behaviors will be referred to moderators.

Extinguish threats. Legal, physical, and emotional threats have no place on the innovation platform. This is a space where people are free to make mistakes in the full support of the community. To do this everyone must feel safe.

Leave the trolling behind. We are building a financial and social operating system for the next century. Trolling is unproductive at best and destructive at worst.

Share the power. There is an enormous spectrum of individuals represented in the Cardano ecosystem. Using one’s personal resources to attack, discredit, or harm another project will not be allowed on the innovation platform. Decentralized governance is about sharing power and pushing it to the edges rather than siloing it at the center.

Remediation

Create a level playing field

Our goal should be to create a self-correcting community which continually polices and challenges belligerent and unproductive behavior However, in the case that these community guidelines are broken, IOHK reserves the right to take corrective action. This remediation will occur in an escalating fashion to ensure that the least invasive corrective is used.

Reminder of guidelines. After an infraction those who have committed a breach will be reminded of the guidelines.

First warning. If the behavior continues a written warning will be issued.

Temporary ban. Activity on the innovation platform will be stopped temporarily for offending parties in case belligerent behavior continues.

Permanent ban. An abusive participant will be removed from the platform.

IOHK reserves the right to ban any user from our innovation platform. Any comment(s) posted which we deem to be criminal in nature, instigates, implies violence toward oneself or another may be reported to the proper authorities. Insults, threats or harassment of other users, organizations or employees (neither direct nor metaphorical) are prohibited.

IOHK reserves its right to delete any post or comment that:
