Instructions to install GPIB sensors
====================================
If you need to control GPIB enabled sensors/devices, you need to make sure
linux-gpib infrastructure is present on target machine.
The linux-gpib project is on SourceForge, so see
http://linux-gpib.sourceforge.net/ for details. Below are instructions to get
GPIB drivers configured, compiled and running a device with the NI USB GPIB
interface on Debian based distribution (e.g. Ubuntu):
sudo apt-get install libgpib0-dev libgpib-bin
svn co https://linux-gpib.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/linux-gpib/trunk/linux-gpib linux-gpib
cd linux-gpib
./configure
cd drivers
make && sudo make install
Then after plugging NI USB interface to USB on the target computer, you should
see in dmesg output line with:
ni_usb_gpib: attach
If that's the case, the last step is to run RTS2 ./configure adding
"--with-gpib" option:
user@host:~/fliusb/libfli$ cd ~/rts2
user@host:~/rts2$ ./configure --with-gpib
Then run make and (as root) make install. After installing, start the GPIB
driver(s) you need - e.g. rts2-sensor-lakeshore-340 or
rts2-sensor-keithley-scpi. GPIB sensors ussually requires -p option for primary
address of the device, which you can configure/query on device (please see
device manual for details).
