I’m involved with some space weather research at UAH and we’re using Athena++ to generate the background solar wind for a CME. Currently half of the run time is spent evolving an axisymmetric wind (in 3D) to a steady state before applying a non-axisymmetric boundary condition that’s meant to mimic a CME. I would like to reduce the run time by performing a 1D calculation to a steady state and then revolving that data in the angular directions. Has anyone here done something similar that could provide me with an example?
