Compiling from HTML, variables

Because variables can be empty strings, they will not be picked up when compiling from HTML to AssessML. We'll have to fix this with some kind of delimiter, but using span tags causes KaTex parsing to fail...perhaps an invisible html entity or something like that. It isn't an issue currently because we don't support compiling back from html.
