Describe the bug:

When selecting File > Save Current Frame the saved png image saves but not as an image which fills the workspace.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Upload video into timeline
  2. Drag playhead to a location on video
  3. From dropdown menus, select File > Save current frame
  4. choose save location

Expected behavior:
Normally the image that is saved is the same as what is presented in the viewport

System Details:

  • OpenShot Version dev build 12980

  • Operating System
    Edition Windows 11 Pro
    Version 23H2

As you can see the image on the left is correct in size, the saved image on the right is the problem which is experienced.

Hello @paulyingling. Your steps to reproduce the issue seems to be missing a step or 2.

  1. What type of a file are you importing into Openshot (.mp4? .mov? etc.? Also, how did you record it (mobile device, camera, etc?).

  2. What are you doing after step 4?
    a. Are you importing back into OpenShot and then your preview does not look right?
    b. Is Frame-01363 created via "Save Current Frame"?
    c. I am assuming that Frame-02483 is created via the "Save Current Frame" option.
    d. if you are not importing back into OpenShot, what are you using to view the .png file with?

I am running Windows 11 Pro and OpenShot build #12980.

  1. I imported a .mp4 file.
  2. Moved the Playhead a few seconds into the video.
  3. Performed the "Save Current Frame" option and saved the .png file.
  4. Imported the .png file back into OpenShot and I have no issues with the size.

Thanks for helping me post the items which can be used to troubleshoot. To answer the questions:

  1. File imported are MP4 files shot on a cell phone (Ultra S23) which I use for many videos I edit in Openshot - this only happens occasionally and without identifiable patterns.
  2. After step 4 I am importing the frames back into the timeline and both the preview and resultant png image are not correct, as displayed in the right image 2483. frame 1363 is created via Save Current Frame as is the other image. Both are using the same process and generating different results.

Thanks again

The short term workaround is to close openshot (dumping cache?), reopen and attempt to save the frame again. That works about 80% of the time
