Having commands re-use a window instead of always creating a new one.

How are people dealing with the ever increasing number of windows? Is there a setting so that the last window is re-used by default when showing a new chart or table?

Especially when using a tiling window manager it's basically unusable because every new window shrinks the previous windows unless you keep closing windows before executing a new command.
