As far as I can tell, the goal is only read from config files. That would limit goal-setting to the project level. It would be really useful if the wordcount goal could also be configured per-document, say in a YAML header in markdown files, for example.
If this sounds like a good idea to you, I'd be willing to work on a PR. I'm not familiar with coffeescript, but I could probably slug through it for this particular feature.

Hey @frankdugan3 that is a interesting idea. What about if we do a little pop-up as the syntax selection has, so it always comes with the configured default but could be overwritten per document.
