Stargate Milky Way

Stargate

Stargates are main structure added by this mod. They can teleport you, your items and items thrown at it.

This page is mainly for Milky Way style gates but some of the information apply globally. This is a subject to change. From 1.6 Orlin gates are available, see here.

Building

Stargates are big multiblock structures that consists of(Default small variant):

  • 8 Stargate Ring Blocks
  • 9 Stargate Chevron Blocks
  • 1 Stargate Base Block

They must be built as shown:

As of 1.7, this is the new default pattern(Small and Medium). For old one(aka Large), see here.

Merging

When the Stargate is built properly, the proper model is being rendered instead of plain blocks.

Now, You'll need to read It's address.

Stargate addressing system

Stargate address consists of:

  • 6 main symbols
  • 1 cross-dimension symbol
  • 1 Code override symbol (for switching to and from the universe gate system)
  • Point of origin(dialed on the DHD)

To open Stargate's GUI just right-click the base block.

GUI

Updated image

The GUI consists of three main parts:

  • The upgrade part
  • The address part
  • The power part

In the first part. You will see 4 item slots the first item you will need to place in any of these slots is the Milky way Glyphs crystal (you will need this to view and save the address to a notebook page) once you have inserted said crystal into any of the 4 slots you will notice a tab appear on the right-hand side of the GUI when you click on this tab you will be faced with the Milky way address tab in this tab there will be an item slot where you can put a notebook page to record the address of this gate. two of the other slots will be used for the other two address types (universe and pegasus) and the last of the 4 slots will, of course, be used for the stargate glyph upgrade.

In the tab or tabs Without a Stargate Glyph Upgrade you're going to see 6 symbols. If the upgrade was installed it'll show 8 symbols. The first 7 are required for cross-dimensional travel. See DHD page.

Make a screenshot of this screen, as you'll need it later to dial that gate. Or sketch it, if you're brave enough.

Or use a Notebook Page

Names are here only for reference. They serve no real purpose when dialing.

Safety precautions

Keep in mind that the event horizon and the unstable vortex a.k.a Kawoosh from 1.6 kills entities and vaporizes blocks. You can see the range of it by enabling one of the config options in the Debug section:

  • Render bounding boxes - You can see the effect live.

  • Render whole kawoosh bounding box - Forces the whole Kawoosh killing box to diplay. Also, displays which blocks will be vaporized within the gate.

This options are client-side

Operating the gate

Currently, there are two viable options, The DHD and the OpenComputers way. Here, we'll discuss the first one.

So now, go craft it. Then, place it within 10 block horizontal and 2 block vertical radius around the formed gate's base block(Configurable).

Dialing procedure is described on the DHD page.

When you finally hit this Bright Red Button and the horizon stabilizes itself, you will be ready to explore the unknown.

Kawoosh!

My far-future plan on this one are integrating OpenComputers support and an old-fashioned way, SGC-style dialing. The slow-spinning ring, chevrons lockin, Walter talkin... Ahh the nostalgy. Someday, my friends, someday.

Camo blocks

Camouflage!

All blocks except Stargate Base can be buried in another block(i.e. they display the other block's model). To do this, you need to right-click with the block held on the block you want to bury. Slabs and double slabs now working! (1.4-beta)

Power draw

Giant capacitor, eh?
Indeed.

There are two ways of powering the Stargate:

  • Internal gate buffer
  • DHD Control Crystal

The gate itself can hold as much as 15 milion RF. This buffer can be charged by pluging ForgeEnergy-compatible cable at the base block of the Stargate.

The other method involves DHD and charged control crystal, see DHD. The gate will draw power from crystal's buffer. Convenient for off-world gates.

Buffers are selected based of which buffer can handle required amount of energy, but the gate's buffer comes first.

Maths behind energy draw

See here.

Upgrades

Stargate Glyph Upgrade

If you want to be able to make cross-dimensional dials, you'll need some half-ascended O'Neill's magic. Jk you just need Stargate Glyph Upgrade. Insert it from the top of the base block on merged gate. Then right-click with the Ancient Analyzer as usuall.

Should look like this:

Chevron seven is... engaged?
