Do you get this behaviour when Freecam is the only mod installed?

Do you also get this issue with the non-Modrinth version (GitHub or CurseForge)?

Would you mind listing what other mods you're using when you have this issue? In particular, mods that affect rendering could have compatibility issues.

  • No, I managed to identify that this issue only occurs when using iris shaders mod 1.7

Do you also get this issue with the non-Modrinth version (GitHub or CurseForge)?

  • Both version give the same results

Would you mind listing what other mods you're using when you have this issue? In particular, mods that affect rendering could have compatibility issues.

  • here are the mods installed in this instance:

Update: freecam is working correctly with iris shaders version 1.6.17

Well done for identifying the issue! It sounds like somewhere between 1.6.17 and 1.7.0 Iris shaders has changed something to cause this.

I'd recommend opening an issue over there so that they're aware.

Did you make a bug entry over there? That bug is really annoying. I have removed Iris for now.

I just made an entry over at Iris for it: IrisShaders/Iris#2321

Using iris-1.7.0+mc1.20.6.jar with freecam-fabric-1.2.4+mc1.20.5.jar breaks Freecam for me as well. Freecam will work with all other mods I have, but once I place the iris shaders mod back, most of the underground does not render. It's unfortunate, because even disabling the shaders doesn't resolve it.

Just for info, with Tweakeroo freecam, it doenst happen: https://github.com/maruohon/tweakeroo
1.21 port: https://github.com/sakura-ryoko/tweakeroo/releases

Can use Iris 1.7.1 with it and see caves. Tried Freecam beta build yesterday, same issue (on 1.21)

To add to this. There was a github issue add for Iris. I don't think anyone has replied from Iris, but I honestly don't know how githud really works or how to mod.

Disabling Iris resolves the issue but disabling shaders does not

Posting this here and also in the bug report for Iris bug 2321.
This rendering issue might be from a update to Minecraft itself, as when doing this testing, as with others, removing Iris from the mod folder fixes the issue.
But with Iris installed switching your game mode to spectator mode and go into freecam, this issue do not occur. And in Freecam mode, switching back to creative/survival/adventure makes everything go black again (except some tourches).

There is now a commit to iris that fixes the issue:

IrisShaders/Iris#2321 (comment)

It isn't released yet, but you can use the GH build artifacts.
