Hi!
This is not really an issue but a feature request.
Currently, the only known method to trigger the OSK at any time in android is by using hacker's keyboard (which is no longer maintained since 2018) which has an option to have a permanent notification to do so.
My request is to please implement a way to show/trigger the keyboard in android at any time because there are rdp/screenshare/other apps that need either direct key input without actually counting as typing into a textbox or we need the ability to use shortcuts and it would be the last missing piece from this already immensely superior keyboard that i just love. Personally I need it for RDP/Raspberry connect that doesn't trigger the on screen keyboard and I really need a solution because I just can't use it without a keyboard. Please make it happen!

Thanks for your issue. This was asked before #69 and attempted #497 but abandoned for technical reasons.
It seems to be impossible on Android 13 and up, without also making the app worse in the general case (eg. Google Play will not accept updates anymore, edge-to-edge will not work).

Perhaps the app should be forked and released under a new name ?
I do not volunteer to do this work as I'm already spending all my available time on this app but I can offer help in maintenance.

:shipit: Or you could have a separate PlayStore & foss/f-droid releases here on GitHub 🤷‍♂️

I tried to understand the original discussion but I might not uderstand some parts so sry if I ask something that is already answered.
Would it be possible to show a floating keyboard that is something like the picture in picture method? Is that approach also not working?

The floating keyboard approach might not be able to send any key to any app on recent Android versions but the only way to tell is to try.
