Add compatibility for up-to-date gradle versions

Currently gradle version seems to be limited to 0.8+ via com.android.tools.build:gradle:0.8.+. I would love to use it in my current android project which uses a recent gradle version (1.2.3 as of today).

1. Do you have any plans to support recent gradle versions?
   • If not, can you recommend some similar lib or workaround for type-safe named string placeholders on android? Of course one could just use the underlying https://github.com/square/phrase/#phrase---android-string-formatting as a non-type-safe solution.

+1, I would really appreciate supporting more recent Gradle version or giving a hint on some good workaround!
