The presentation world is dominated by PowerPoint and Google Slides, both of which are like...the worst possible kinds of presentations.
Besides the obvious technical problems of the dominant slideshow editor being a bad web-based clone of an already bad program, the whole PowerPoint approach to presentations is really constraining and leads to poor presentations. Tufte has multiple good articles about this. Suffice it to say that no one in the world should ever make slides with bullet lists stating exactly the same words they are already saying aloud.
The essence of a presentation program is being able to put up visuals for people and navigate through them on command. Ideally the presentations are also self-contained so that you can present on other people's computers without issue.
For some reason, it seems like the only other self-contained presentation alternatives require you to make slides in Markdown or LaTeX. What kind of archaic programmer bullshit is that? That just guarantees that your slides are nothing but boring text. It's plainly offensive and should never be done. Presentation tools are about making compelling companion visuals for a live talk. The tools absolutely must be visual in nature.
