The presentation world is dominated by PowerPoint and Google Slides, both of which are like...the worst possible kinds of presentations.

Besides the obvious technical problems of the dominant slideshow editor being a bad web-based clone of an already bad program, the whole PowerPoint approach to presentations is really constraining and leads to poor presentations. Tufte has multiple good articles about this. Suffice it to say that no one in the world should ever make slides with bullet lists stating exactly the same words they are already saying aloud.

The essence of a presentation program is being able to put up visuals for people and navigate through them on command. Ideally the presentations are also self-contained so that you can present on other people's computers without issue.

For some reason, it seems like the only other self-contained presentation alternatives require you to make slides in Markdown or LaTeX. What kind of archaic programmer bullshit is that? That just guarantees that your slides are nothing but boring text. It's plainly offensive and should never be done. Presentation tools are about making compelling companion visuals for a live talk. The tools absolutely must be visual in nature.

This program should:

• Allow you to make simple static slides with images and text
• Allow you to export presentations as completely self-contained documents (web pages?)
• Allow you to drop into some kind of dynamic / interactive content to take advantage of the fact that, well, it's a live presentation done by a computer
  • This may get programmery. That's fine, as long as it can offer a decent system for this stuff without requiring programmers to invent all the rest of the software. Like, maybe some basic 3D shape drawing stuff would suffice so people can snap together custom charts and visuals.

Maybe animations & constraints to word count could help leaning into a better direction.
