Novice here. I have been googling what pullup resistors are but I do not understand how "pullup resistors to 3.3v for both SIOC and SIOD" must be interpreted.
Could you explain the schematic?

I have found an explanation here:
https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/i2c
"I2C at the Hardware Level" provides a schematic.

This made me understand it:
"Unlike UART or SPI connections, the I2C bus drivers are “open drain”, meaning that they can pull the corresponding signal line low, but cannot drive it high."
