The wrong sql type is returned by SQLDescribeCol() for some database types.

CHAR(n) database type
-- SQL_WVARCHAR
-- (fixed) ---> SQL_WCHAR (in UNICODE ver)
BLOB
-- SQL_C_DEFAULT
-- (fixed) ---> SQL_LONGVARBINARY
CLOB
-- SQL_C_DEFAULT
-- (fixed) ---> SQL_LONGVARCHAR
