SE-Linux seems to be interfering with getting a proper file descriptor, on newer android builds 4.4+. Maybe this should be given by android or otherwise revised? https://source.android.com/security/selinux/concepts.html

Are you sure ? The access to the usb device asks the permission. What platform are you testing it ? Do you have v4l2 available ?

Android 5.1.1, on Oneplus One Oxygen OS v. 2.1.4, so should be available.
